Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has informed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny of the change at the top of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Zelensky himself wrote it on X, thus confirming the rumors about his replacement.
"I met General Valerii Zaluzhny. I thanked him for the two years spent defending Ukraine. We discussed the renewal that the Ukrainian Armed Forces needs.
We also discussed who could be part of the renewed leadership of the Ukrainian Armed Forces,” Zelensky wrote on .
I proposed to General Zaluzhny to stay in the team.
We will definitely win!
Glory to Ukraine!", added the president.
Confirmation of Zaluzhny's removal also came at the same time from the Kiev Ministry of Defense.
Zelensky then appointed General Oleksandr Syrsky as the new head of the Armed Forces.
Syrsky previously held the role of commander of the ground forces.
"In the hardest first days of the Great War, we lined up against a vile and strong enemy. Our battle continues and changes every day. The tasks of 2022 are different from those of 2024. Therefore, everyone should change and adapt to the new reality. To win together", commented Zaluzhny on Facebook, underlining that the conversation with Zelensky was "an important and serious conversation. The decision was made on the need to change approaches and strategy".
