But the open clash between the League and the Brothers of Italy on support for farmers after Giorgia Meloni called all the associations "representative" of the agricultural world is far from closed.
On the contrary.
The proposal, made official in front of the acronyms at Palazzo Chigi, to restore the exemption from the provincial and agricultural Irpef for those with incomes of up to 10 thousand euros, is not enough for Matteo Salvini who says at the meeting, and then in the square in Basilicata, that " we can do more."
The convocation of Coldiretti, Cia-Italian Farmers, Confagricoltura, Fedagripesca and Copagri remains confidential until the last moment, even if a move by the Prime Minister to break the impasse with the farmers was already in the air - with the protest of the tractors arrived in Rome but also at the Sanremo Festival.
"We have always defended you from the wrong choices imposed by the European Commission", says the prime minister to the audience of associations with which the government repeats that it has "always dialogued".
In "16 months no miracles have been achieved but I believe that the trend reversal is evident", she begins by claiming the overall increase in resources and the measures implemented so far.
And the executive, he assures, is ready to give concrete answers, to guarantee that the products are paid "the right price" to farmers, to propose a "European block" of food produced in laboratories, to defend them from unfair competition, to give a hand on the credit and employment front, to set up an ad hoc table.
And to remove Irpef as "concrete support for the weakest".
Meloni has half the government at his side, including the two deputy prime ministers, to show solidarity towards a "central and strategic" sector.
In the meantime, however, several episodes reveal increasingly evident distances between the allies;
Fratelli d'Italia, with its rapporteur, presents to the Chamber a new amendment to the Milleproroghe decree for the agricultural world, which postpones the entry into force of the obligation to insure agricultural vehicles by six months.
And Salvini quickly announced that he had brought together the leaders of the League on the issue of agriculture.
The deputy prime minister is busy outside Rome, in Bari and then in Basilicata led by the Italian Vito Bardi seeking reconfirmation.
But the League also has "women and men who would know how to govern well", claims Salvini, implying that Bardi's re-nomination (even after the change between Truzzu and Solinas in Sardinia) is not at all a given.
The Northern League leader also meets there, as he did in Abruzzo, protesting farmers with tractors but also participates, via video, in the meeting called by the prime minister.
He speaks little, after Meloni and Tajani, and also repeats there that "more can be done".
Not exactly the same message that the rest of the government is sending, which insists on political inappropriateness but also on the scarcity of resources.
Finding more would be the task of the Mef (Giancarlo Giorgetti is present among the League ministers, who is putting together the arrangements to reintroduce the partial exemption and has undertaken to verify some of the categories' requests).
But already like this, minister Francesco Lollobrigida is holding back his ally, the measure "will guarantee more than 90% of agricultural businesses".
As it was before, the measure was not "fair", had created an "imbalance" and was ultimately a "privilege" - a concept repeated at the table - for the richest agricultural entrepreneurs.
In any case - the opposition accuse - it will be a "sensational reverse" which will be evident in Parliament when the proposal arrives there after the skirmishes of recent days.
The government will eventually intervene to give "a further signal of attention" but that of agricultural income tax, Lollobrigida further underlines in the dossier, has "never been the main problem" raised by the sector.
And the choice not to extend the exemption with the maneuver, he would have reminded at the table, had been "shared".
