In Ireland, a pink dog that can neither hear nor see is delighting thousands of people.

A fascinating story.

In 2017, a dog was born in Westport, Ireland, which caused a stir.

For one thing, he was born with unusual pink fur.

In addition, the puppy, who initially requires some equipment, had to cope with not being able to hear or see.

The most difficult conditions for starting life.

Veterinarian Melissa Shapiro took the puppy to her heart during a visit to the animal shelter in 2017 and adopted him.

“Piglet” got its name because of the color of its fur

Because of the pink fur, Shapiro named her new pet “piglet” – meaning “piglet” in German.

However, the start to life was slow due to the little furry friend's handicaps: “For many weeks we struggled to overcome his severe disability.

The puppy was very restless and anxious.

Only after a few weeks did he gain trust and show his character.” Nevertheless, she emphasizes: “He is a really fantastic dog and I can no longer imagine my life without him.”

After a few years, Melissa and Piglet visited a school in Massachusetts to tell the children there the story of the dog.

The campaign was a complete success.

From now on, whenever there are problems, the children should always ask themselves the question: “What would Piglet do?” The little four-legged friend became an example for the children to overcome resistance and believe in their dreams.

The educational program is now used by children worldwide.

After seeing how her dog inspired her children, Melissa set up a social media account for him, launched a website and founded a charity.

The veterinarian also wrote a book about piglets and donated the proceeds to charity.

What Melissa had certainly taken into account with Piglet: If you get a new dog, you have to pay attention to three crucial things.

Around 304,000 people (as of February 6, 2024) are now following the actions of Piglet and his “mom” Melissa on Instagram.

Piglet doesn't live alone with the vet, but with other dogs, one of which is also blind and deaf.

Not only in the posts, but also in many “story highlights,” Melissa shows the world what her animal friends get up to all day long.

Comments: “I think this was the perfect choice!”

Hundreds of people comment on every video that shows Piglet and his animal siblings doing their activities.

At the beginning of February, Melissa posted a video that showed several pictures and short videos of Piglet as a puppy when she had just adopted him from the animal shelter.

The comments below speak volumes:

  • “I think it was the perfect choice.

Who could ever say no to such perfect “pinkness”!”

  • “Piglet was soooo small and just the perfect decision!”

  • "Oh my god, how cute!

No wonder you couldn’t resist Piglet!”

  • “The absolute best decision.

Lots of love to the little pink animal!”

Another heartwarming story happened at the Bergheim animal shelter.

There, a male cat saved the life of a seriously ill cat by donating blood.
