The floral arrangement in Turin cathedral will be sober for the funeral of Vittorio Emanuele, son of the last king of Italy, which will begin tomorrow at 3pm. Many have asked to participate, royal houses - the Windsors absent - and ordinary citizens, and two large screens will be set up in the square to allow as many people as possible to watch the homily.

But today was the day of the funeral chapel at the chapel of Sant'Uberto at the Reggia di Venaria.

Covered by a composition of white, blue and red roses to form the symbol of the family, the coffin was accompanied by his son Emanuele Filiberto, who stopped next to it for a moment, placing a hand on it.

"All this rain... even Turin is crying today", he murmured when meeting journalists.

"He was a father, a friend, a teacher - he added - Turin is the city he loved and in which he wanted to rest and I believe he is paying him a beautiful tribute. Despite this sad moment, the last three weeks with him were very beautiful : he was calm and we talked about many things. He fell asleep and never woke up. The thing that gives relief is the fact that he didn't suffer."

Monsignor Gian Franco Troya, an honorary royal chaplain appointed by Umberto, appointed by King Umberto II and rector of the royal sanctuary Madonna delle Grazie of Racconigi for fifty years, was there to welcome the coffin.

"My duty is to be at the service of the Savoys - he says -. What we celebrate today is the liturgy of welcome. I am the last royal chaplain appointed by Umberto, I was present at all the family ceremonies and today I am here to welcome the deceased".

Also present was the royal guard of honor with the banners with the medal collection of the National Institute for the guard of honor at the royal tombs of the Pantheon.

The president of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa, also went to the funeral home: "There are lights and shadows - he said as he left the Palace - but I don't forget that the Savoy dynasty was the architect of the unification of Italy".

With large glasses and hair pulled back, Princess Marina Doria was welcomed at the entrance by the salute of honor from the Guards of the Pantheon and took her place on the left of the coffin, next to her son Emanuele Filiberto, her daughter-in-law Clotilde Courau and her granddaughters Vittoria and Luisa.

Shortly after her arrival, the chancellor of the Dynastic Orders of the House of Savoy, Johannes Niederhauser, placed the Golden Collar of the Annunciation, symbol of the highest dynastic Order of the house, on a cushion near the coffin.

Two of Vittorio Emanuele's sisters, Maria Gabriella and Maria Beatrice, were not present because they were blocked respectively in Switzerland and Mexico for health reasons.

Present was her older sister Maria Pia, with her son Serge of Yugoslavia.

Among the bouquets and crowns of flowers present, the all-white one of the King and Queen of Belgium, of the Spanish and Scandinavian delegations of the Dynastic Orders of the Royal House of Savoy.

Among those present was the former MEP Mario Borghezio, who remembered Vittorio Emanuele as "an intelligent, prepared, cultured and above all very honest person".

Tomorrow, in the cathedral, the coffin will be welcomed by the Sardinian anthem.

The choir that will sing liturgical songs is Piedmontese.

No one will speak after the liturgy.

In these hours, condolences have also arrived from Farah Diba, the last empress of Iran, who will send a representative of the imperial family as well as two wreaths of flowers.

Among the messages received by the House of Savoy were also those from the royal representatives of Saudi Arabia.

However, there will be no representative of the House of Windsor who sent a message of condolence in the aftermath of his death.
