Lentils are considered a real superfood - right?

What do you have to pay attention to when buying lenses and which lenses are the best?

The legumes in check:

Plate lentils, red lentils or Puy lentils – there are plenty of varieties of legumes.

But when choosing a lens, is there anything better than the classic or should you choose lesser-known contenders?

Whether vitamins, proteins or tolerance – HEIDELBERG24 does an all-round check.

With amazing results.

These lenses are the best:

Which lenses are the best according to Öko-Test?

Which lentils are the best depends on a number of things: The lentils should of course have a lot of nutrients and contain few pollutants.

In an all-round sweep, the renowned consumer magazine Öko-Test tested plates and mountain lenses with this result.

While toxic mineral oil components and heavy metals have been found in some lentils, most brands are safe to eat.

Fortunately, the test winners among the plate and mountain lenses are also really inexpensive - even with the organic seal.

These are the best lenses in the Öko-Test at a glance:

  • Alnatura organic plate lentils,

    grade:

    “very good”

  • Organic mountain lentils, unpeeled,

    grade:

    “very good”

  • Müller's Mühle mountain lentils,

    grade:

    “very good”

Which type of lentils is the best?

Basically, it's not a bad decision to rely on lentils in your diet.

The healthy legumes contain lots of nutrients and, with their many proteins, are particularly valuable for a meat-free diet.

But there are many different types of lenses - and plate and mountain lenses are not always the best choice.

In some circumstances it is better to avoid lentils - legumes really are that healthy.

Deciding which type of lentil is best for you also depends on various factors: The lentil must - of course - contain a lot of nutrients and should, if possible, not cause any stomach pain in the end.

It also depends on your personal nutrient needs.

For some, the proteins in the legume are more important, for others it is the fiber or vitamins.

Which lentils have the most vitamins?

Lentils contain many valuable B vitamins, which are good for energy production and immune function.

They also provide A vitamins, which are also related not only to good immune function but also to organ function.

The E vitamins it contains support blood circulation and keep you young.

The all-rounder vitamin C can also be found in abundance in lentils.

It strengthens the growth and maintenance of our skin, teeth and bones.

Casteluccio lentils from Umbria, Italy, contain a particularly large number of different vitamins.

They are not only rich in vitamin A, but also vitamins B1, B2 and B6.

However, berry lentils and chateau lentils also contain many vitamins.

In addition to important B vitamins, both also contain vitamin C and the latter even E.

Which lentils have the most protein?

Protein-containing lentils are particularly valuable for those who avoid meat in their diet.

Yellow lentils in particular are rich in protein, even if they have fewer vitamins because they are peeled.

However, this also makes them easier to digest.

There are around 27 grams of protein per 100 grams of lentils!

But red lentils also have something special.

There are at least 26 grams of protein in a 100 gram portion of the popular variety.

And finally, beluga lentils are also impressive with their more than 23 grams of protein per 100 grams.

Unfortunately, the best protein sources are not necessarily the most vitamin-rich.

Which lentils have the best nutritional values?

Once vitamins and protein have been checked off, all that is missing for an all-round nutrient ranking are the important minerals, fat and calorie content.

Beluga lentils perform well here too: they are not only low in fat, but also rich in fiber and the minerals phosphorus, iron, magnesium and zinc.

In addition to vitamins, Casteluccio and Château lentils also contain many of the valuable minerals phosphorus, zinc, iron and potassium.

Both varieties are also low in calories.

And finally, Alb lentils with a considerable amount of B vitamins as well as plenty of magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and potassium are not to be despised.

The healthiest lentils at a glance:

  • Beluga lentils

  • Casteluccio lentils

  • Chateau lentils

  • Alb lenses

Which are the healthiest lentils?

Which lentils are ultimately healthiest for you depends on your individual needs and diet.

Anyone who does a lot of sport benefits from performance lenses (red lenses and mountain lenses).

Anyone who relies on nerve nourishment for the brain should eat plate lentils - but caution is advised if you have gout!

Anyone who has serious health concerns should first speak to their doctor.

In principle, however, the following applies: unpeeled and dried lentils are healthier than peeled or canned lentils.

Soaking makes many lentils more tolerable, as does seasoning them with caraway, fennel or ginger.

The nutrient content of mountain lentils can even be increased by allowing them to germinate.

It is also important to always cook lentils well before eating.
