Even a true washing professional is not always immune to shrunken clothing.
There is an ingenious trick to save your favorite piece.
Washed once too hot and the shirt or sweater has shrunk into a miserable thing.
There is great sadness, especially when it hits your favorite piece of clothing.
But maybe you'll be lucky: there's an ingenious trick that will help you get the fabric back into shape.
However, this only works with
knitted or crocheted clothing
.
If it's polyester, cashmere or silk, you'll probably bite granite.
But if you have nothing to lose anyway, you can still give it a try.
That's how it's done:
This is how you get shrunken laundry back into shape
To save the shrunken garment, you need one of these two remedies: either
baby shampoo or hair conditioner
.
They help
to relax the contracted fibers again
.
How to proceed step by step:
Place the item of laundry in a large bowl or sink full of
lukewarm water
.
Add
one teaspoon of baby shampoo or hair conditioner per liter of water
.
Leave the garment in the soap solution for at least
half an hour
.
Then take it out again and squeeze it out carefully - just don't wring it out or rinse it!
The soap solution should continue to act on the fibers.
Begin to carefully
return the item of laundry to its
original shape .
But don't tug on it unnecessarily - otherwise you might make it worse.
Now place it spread out on a dry towel and roll both together loosely.
This gives the garment the chance to release moisture.
Leave it like that
for ten minutes
.
Then roll it out again and carefully pull it into shape again.
Now fix the side edges with heavy objects so that the fibers do not contract again.
Now let it dry completely.
If this one pass is not enough to return the garment to its original shape, you can repeat this process several times.
