If we rely on the biblical descriptions, it is possible that the paradise of Genesis, that of Adam and Eve, the tree of knowledge and the tree of life - is somewhere near Iraq and Iran, around the Persian Gulf.

The Garden of Eden is the biblical place where Adam and Eve were created according to Judaism, but is the biblical story based on a real place?

And if so - where is he?

It is difficult to approach this question from a rational point of view, as the story of the Garden of Eden has many irrational aspects such as talking snakes and forbidden fruit, things for which no evidence can be found.

However, it is not unreasonable to assume that this mythical garden was based on an actual location.

For thousands of years, thinkers, geographers, explorers and just adventurers have been trying to find the "Paradise" mentioned in the book of Genesis, and various theories have been put forward that claim to indicate its location.

There is even an ancient legend that appears in the book 'Assaf Harofeh' which tells of a group of doctors and researchers led by a Macedonian sage named Askalpinus who went out to look for rare medicinal plants in a paradise located in the equatorial region and all of them were struck by the "heat of the inverted sword" that was placed to "guard the way of the trees".

But before discussing the geographical location of heaven on earth, some important points should be made in advance.

First of all, the sages of Kabbalah and thinkers of Israeli thought explain that the term "heaven" refers to two different concepts: the

first concept is "heaven above", also called "spiritual heaven", it is a completely spiritual place where souls live after death and leaving the physical body.

At the same time as the spiritual heaven which is the world of souls, there is also the "lower heaven" which is a physical place in this world, in the geographical space of the earth, where G-d placed man after he was created, as described in the creation chapter in the book of Genesis.

This is the place we are looking for.

The answer - according to the Torah

It is said that in paradise the first people were created for them.

They hung around there innocently until a sly snake and forbidden fruit got them - and us humanity - into trouble.

As for the location of this garden, it is described in Genesis, chapter 2, verses 10-14: "And a river went out of Eden to water the garden;

And from there, it will separate, and it was, into four heads.

The name of the one, Pishon--he is the surrounding, the whole land of the camp, which is there, the gold.

And the gold of that country is good;

There is the crystal, and the ash stone.

And the name of the second river, Gihon--it is the one that surrounds, the whole land of Cush.

And the name of the third river is Tigris, it is the one that goes before Ashur;

And the fourth river is the Euphrates."

The solution to the question of where Paradise is quite clearly detailed here - it was located where four rivers meet. We know two of these rivers today: the Tigris and the Euphrates, which begin in Turkey before flowing through Syria and Iraq and emptying into the Persian Gulf. However , it is not clear what the names Pishon and Gihon refer to. For centuries, some theologians have speculated that they might refer to the Ganges in India and the Nile in Egypt, though others have pointed out that this would include too vast a portion of the earth as "heaven."

John Calvin, the 16th-century theologian known for his central role in the Protestant Reformation, wrote: "Many think that the Pishon and Gihon are the Ganges and the Nile; but the error of these men is disproved by the distance of the locations of these rivers. As if indeed the habitation of one man extended from the the farthest part of Asia to the edge of Europe."

Nevertheless, based on the mention of the Tigris and the Euphrates, it can be assumed that Paradise drew some inspiration from an area in Iraq and Iran where these two rivers meet near the Persian Gulf.

In particular, there is a river on the Iran-Iraq border called Shat al-Arab formed at the confluence of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers.

And maybe paradise is even in Africa?

The scientific website iflscience explains that from a more scientific point of view, if we want to believe that the Garden of Eden symbolizes the origin of humans - there is no doubt that we must turn our gaze to Africa.

The remains of the first humans can be found in South Africa about 50 km northwest of Johannesburg. This site has the largest concentration of remains of human ancestors from anywhere else in the world. Among the thousands of fossils found here, researchers discovered the remains of Australopithecus, a human species early ape-like dating to about 3.4 to about 3.7 million years ago.

It was only 200,000 to 300,000 years ago that modern Homo sapiens evolved. Again, Africa was the location of this evolution, with modern humans likely first appearing somewhere around present-day Ethiopia.

Therefore , in this case, if we are looking for a paradise that is the origin of mankind and based on scientific research, South Africa and Ethiopia seem to be our best bets. However, much more research is required to confirm that there was the same biblical paradise where four rivers met.
