The Palestinian news agency Wafa says at least 11 people died and several others were injured last night in an Israeli shelling that hit a house in the al-Nasr neighborhood of the city of Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip.
In their meeting in Washington, US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also spoke about efforts to prevent a regional escalation of the war in the Middle East.
"They highlighted the need to protect civilians in Gaza and increase humanitarian assistance and - notes the White House - exchanged their views on the conditions for a lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians that includes the creation of a Palestinian state with guarantees for the security of Israel."
