The next time they go shopping, customers should take a close look at price tags.

Secret codes are hidden there that reveal a lot about the products.

For many people, weekly shopping is a fixed ritual: everything that is going to end up on the plate or in the snack box in the coming days is bought as fresh as possible.

If you don't want to experience a nasty surprise at the checkout, you should also pay attention to the price.

It's not always that easy to combine high quality and a reasonable price when shopping.

All the more annoying when proven products are removed from the range.

But there is a trick for exactly these two cases - and it is often hidden directly on the price tag in the form of a “secret code”.

Secret codes on price tags: Save money when shopping with a simple trick

Be it a bracket with a special function on the shopping cart, a trick on supermarket freezers or a tip to avoid long queues at the checkout: many life hacks can make life easier.

This is no different in this case either.

Provided consumers know what to look out for.

At discounters like Lidl or shopping giants like Kaufland, two important information can be found directly on the price tag.

If the letters “T” and “TS” are printed there, customers will receive these products at a lower price at certain times.

  • Letter “T”: Shortly before the store closes, products that have a “T” on the price tag are sold cheaper.

These often include foods such as fruit, vegetables, yogurt and dairy, fish and meat.

  • Letter combination “TS”: This abbreviation stands for “Daily Inspection Saturday” and means that new goods are put into the sales area on Saturdays.

Old goods are then offered for up to 80 percent cheaper.

Code on the price tag reveals details about the product – life hack for Lidl customers

But these are not the only codes that can be found on price tags.

For example, a certain string of characters gives Lidl employees information about discounts on goods.

It is the combination of a letter and a number, such as “4T” or “6T”.

These indicate when products at Lidl are reduced due to the best before date (BBD).

For example, the note “4T” on the price tag means that the product becomes cheaper four days before the best-before date is reached.

“6T” stands for a price reduction six days before the best before date.

Secret code at Kaufland – what the barcodes on the price tags reveal

However, there are also “secret codes” that reveal when certain products are removed from the Kaufland range.

There is a line on the barcode on some price tags - often when they are already reduced.

If the line is above the barcode, it means: watch out!

The crossed out barcode indicates that the product will soon be removed from the product range.

Customers can sometimes receive items up to 50 percent cheaper compared to the original price.
