A man died this Saturday in
Berazategui
after being
trapped with his car in an underpass
that crosses the Roca Railway tracks and which was
flooded
due to the intense rain that fell in the area in the previous hours.
The incident occurred around 8:30, in the tunnel on 24th Street and Lisandro de la Torre, in that town located south of the Buenos Aires suburbs.
Local residents reported a Volkswagen Fox that was stopped inside the tunnel,
covered by water
.
Personnel from the Berazategui Patrol Command and volunteer firefighters approached the scene and worked at the site to extract the car, where they found its driver
dead from asphyxiation due to immersion
, according to the first estimate of the experts.
The victim was identified by investigators as
Juan José Serries
, also residing in the Berazategui district.
Sources said that justice is trying to establish how the man's death occurred.
The case was classified, in principle as "wrongful homicide", with the intervention of the Decentralized Functional Instruction Unit 8 of Berazategui, led by prosecutor Paola Karina Santolín, who ordered a series of measures.
One of them was to request the analysis of the security cameras, located in the vicinity of the underpass, to
establish if the vehicle entered the already flooded tunnel
, when traffic would have been hindered with fences.
The victim was trapped with his car on an underpass that crosses the Roca Railway tracks in Berazategui.
The intense rains that fell this Saturday in Buenos Aires territory also caused the death of five people who lost their way at kilometer 285 of Route 11 and fell into a stream when they were returning from a week's vacation on the Atlantic Coast.
They all drowned because the vehicle was almost completely covered by water.
According to the first hypotheses of the road experts, the driver lost control of the car while driving towards the AMBA area, near the Buenos Aires district of General Lavalle.
The incident occurred shortly before 9. It is the route that connects the General Conesa roundabout with the La Costa district.
A section of dual carriageway that makes up the Atlantic Road Corridor, a concession of the Province managed by the state company Aubasa.
