A cat was missing for eight years.
Now it's back, also thanks to the chip and registration.
Unfortunately, she still can't return to her old home.
The cat named Morla was found at the Bremen animal shelter.
Because she was correctly chipped and registered, the cat could be returned to the original owner.
She was quite amazed.
Morla has been missing since 2016.
The owner was very happy to see her again.
But she still can't keep her cat.
“Unfortunately, an incompatible cat had moved into Morla’s old home in the meantime,” writes the Bremen animal shelter in a post on

The owner is now looking for a new home for her runaway.

Found animals that come into an animal shelter can be quickly identified using a microchip.
The pets often find their way back to their owners within hours.
But a microchip alone is not enough.
Owners must provide their contact details in a pet registry and register the animals.
If you have a new phone number or move, the data must be updated.
Many found animals are not registered or the owner details are out of date, which makes identification difficult.

The amazing thing about Morla's story: the cat appeared not far from the place where it was lost in 2016.
We don't know what happened in those eight years.
The Bremen animal shelter said on
: “We would like to point out once again that if you find what you think is a lost animal, please don’t just keep it!
An animal found must be reported and then examined for a chip.”
