A Border Collie and a Landseer have had offspring.

The result was D'Artagnan.

Dog fans are delighted with the “little bear”.

It doesn't matter whether it's cats, monkeys or penguins: Animal offspring usually makes people's hearts beat faster.

The mix of cute looks and clumsy movement is just adorable.

But sometimes the result of a flirtation is particularly sweet.

Such a case is the young dog D'Artagnan: The male, born in the summer of 2023, recently ended up in the Mainz animal shelter.

With his extremely cute appearance, the “little bear”, as he is called by the animal shelter employees, captivates the hearts of dog fans.

Little male D'Artagnan: A very special mix

D'Artagnan is a very special mix: a Landseer (which is considered particularly alert and active) and a Border Collie, which is one of the most intelligent dog breeds.

At least the animal shelter assumes this parentage, although a proportion of livestock guard dog breeds cannot be ruled out.

In the end it doesn't matter, the result of the animal liaison is simply a sweet sight.

From Romania to Germany: A musketeer on the move

D'Artagnan arrived in Mainz with his brother Porthos, as the animal shelter announced in an Instagram post.

Anyone who is a little well-read will of course know: The two names come from the world-famous novel “The Three Musketeers” (published in 1844) by Alexandre Dumas – although, curiously enough, the book is actually about four musketeers.

By the way, the dog brothers Porthos and D'Artagnan come from Romania, the animal shelter there was overcrowded.

Apparently there are two other siblings (presumably Arthos and Aramis) who probably remained in their homeland.

“Very friendly, affectionate and funny”: According to the animal shelter, D'Artagnan even gets along with cats

The animal shelter describes D'Artagnan as a "very friendly, affectionate and funny" young dog who could easily move into a household with other dogs, children or even cats.

It is also suitable for beginners.

However, interested parties should be aware that it can grow large and also be “very alert”.

He also has to learn the basics of dogs - house training, for example, and also how to stay alone.

Now the bad news, for everyone who has taken the “beary” musketeer to their hearts after looking at the photos: D'Artagnan - like his brother Porthos - is already taken.

The animal shelter announced this in an Instagram update.

But honestly: who's surprised?
