In the end the Ukrainian director prevailed between Oksana Lyniv and Teodor Currentzis: the Wiener Festwochen has just announced this on its website.
The Kaddish Requiem "Babyn Jar" will take place, the WarRequiem is cancelled.
"The Kaddish Requiem conducted by Oksana Lyniv will be performed as scheduled on June 2nd at the Wiener Konzerthaus - we read on the event page -. Benjamin Britten's War Requiem scheduled for June 12th at the Burgtheater, conducted by Teodor Currentzis, is cancelled. For the performance of Another contemporary Ukrainian piece will be composed and performed in Vienna for KaddishRequiem."
"Either me or Teodor Currentzis", replied the Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv to the invitation of Milo Rau, artistic director of the Wiener Festwochen, for a double appointment in which the two artists would have to conduct two highly symbolic pieces linked to war crimes committed by the Nazis.
The position taken by the Ukrainian conductor arose from the fact that the fellow Greek/Russian conductor has never expressed himself or would never have taken a position regarding Putin's war in Ukraine, but is actually the head of an orchestra, MusiAeterna, considered very close to the Russian president, and that in recent months it has been forced to cancel various events around Europe.
