This bacteria can cause, in rare cases like that of the little girl, “hemolytic uremic syndrome” (HUS).
In total, 11 children with HUS – including five in the same nursery – were infected with this same epidemic strain at the end of last year, indicates Public Health France.

More than a hundred children on average are affected each year, a number that has tended to increase since monitoring began thirty years ago.
The year 2022, marked by several collective infections from industrial pizzas, was record-breaking with 253 cases recorded.
