The Rome preliminary hearing judge has ordered the non-place to proceed for the two employees of the World Food Program (WFP), a UN agency, involved in the investigation by the Prosecutor's Office linked to the death of the Italian ambassador Luca Attanasio and the carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci, killed in Congo on 22 February .
As highlighted by the Farnesina, diplomatic immunity exists for the two accused, as is customary, and this led to the judge's decision for Rocco Leone and Mansour Luguru Rwagaza who were accused of manslaughter.
Lack of jurisdiction recognized.
But the Rome prosecutor's office has decided that it will appeal to the Court of Appeal to challenge the decision of the preliminary hearing judge which ruled that there is no place to prosecute the two employees of the World Food Programme. The prosecutors of Piazzale Clodio, based on what we learn, will pursue all the paths that the criminal system provides to guarantee the two Italian citizens and their families the protection of their rights. "There is strong disappointment and bitterness.
We take note of the sentence and await the next steps of the Prosecutor's Office", the comment of the family members of the Carabiniere Vittorio Iacovacci , killed in Congo together with Ambassador Attanasio, in light of the GUP's decision.
