Former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro used social media to call a demonstration in his support on February 25 on Avenida Paulista, the most important street in Sao Paulo.

In the video, in which he is wearing a 'Selecao' shirt, the national football team, the former right-wing leader states that he wants to defend himself from the accusations made against him through "a peaceful act in defense of our democratic rule of law".


    Last week, the federal police carried out a mega-operation that targeted several political and military allies of the former president, accused of planning an alleged coup.

Bolsonaro himself was ordered to hand over his passport.


    "Do not present yourself with banners or placards against anyone.


   On this occasion I want to defend myself from all the accusations that have been made against me in recent months", declares the former army captain, addressing his supporters.


    Bolsonaro - who, according to some jurists, could become ineligible for 30 years if convicted - has meanwhile told the weekly Veja that he intends to run in the 2026 elections, despite the Superior Electoral Tribunal having declared him ineligible until 2030.
