"Minister Tajani was in Israel: he met Netanyahu, our Foreign Minister and the Speaker of Parliament, who provided him with details on Israel's efforts to avoid civilian casualties. We must be sure that Hamas no longer has the capacity to attack us like on October 7. We are trying to do so, reducing the number of civilian victims to a minimum."
This was stated by the Israeli ambassador to Rome Alon Bar on the sidelines of the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Israel, commenting on the words of the head of the Farnesina this morning.
"At this point Israel's reaction is disproportionate, there are too many victims who have nothing to do with Hamas."
Thus Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, guest of Ping Pong on Radio1, asks Israel to "avoid reprisals against the Palestinian civilian population".
Returning to the controversy between the Israeli ambassador and Sanremo, the deputy prime minister believes that "balance has been restored with Venier's intervention. I don't believe there is genocide, of course Israel is wrong because it is causing too many civilian victims. We must aim for liberation of the hostages and ensure that the violence of the Israeli attacks ceases."
As for the tense relations between the US administration and Israel, Tajani states that the US "is asking us not to exaggerate in the reaction. A position that we all have, without prejudice to the fact that Israel was the victim of carnage, things from the new SS, from the new Gestapo and even worse. But the US, like us, asks not to cause so many victims among the Palestinian population"
"I don't agree with Francesca Albanese's words because the Hamas attack was a military attack aimed at hunting Jews and which had inhuman consequences with violence and desecration of corpses, things never seen before. What the Mrs. Albanese and I understand Israel's reaction. In the face of a conflict we must be cautious."
Thus Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, on Radio1, comments on Israel's ban on entry to the United Nations special rapporteur on the Palestinian Territories, due to his statements regarding the responsibilities of 7 October.
