If your coffee has gotten cold, you shouldn't put it in the microwave.
The warm-up tactics can have health consequences.
Kassel – There are always studies on the health of coffee.
Is the drink good or bad for us?
Most recently, a study by Harvard University came to the conclusion that up to three cups a day can prolong life.
If you drink your pick-me-up every day, you should definitely avoid one mistake: reheating cold coffee.
That could be dangerous.
It is better not to heat up coffee with milk in the microwave
You make your coffee in the morning to get ready for the day, but then you might not finish it.
The coffee is getting cold.
What do many people do then?
Place the drink in the microwave and warm up.
But that's not a good idea.
But reheating is also a health risk, according to a study by
Food Research International
suggests.
At least with any coffee that contains milk.
Because if coffee with milk has been standing for a long time, it can clot and bacteria can form.
However, the microwave heating mechanism does not kill these bacteria in food.
The outer layer of the coffee is heated first, then the inner layer.
The temperatures are therefore not high enough to combat any bacteria.

Reheating coffee in the microwave is not a good idea
As a result, in the worst case scenario, bacterial infections can occur, which can particularly harm people with weakened immune systems.
If you really want to warm up the stimulant again, the oven is an alternative.
But reheating is not only recommended for coffee with milk.
As the Federal Center for Nutrition writes, this has an “unfavorable effect on the taste”.
It doesn't matter what type of coffee it is, black coffee is also affected.
But the reason for this is different: the oils contained break down after about 30 minutes, and the coffee then loses its aroma and taste.
So it becomes more bitter and loses quality.
Cold coffee: Prepare again after two hours instead of reheating
A guideline to prevent this situation from occurring in the first place: Never leave your coffee for longer than two hours.
Because this is how you avoid clotting.
According to the website
pro-physik.de
, a large cup of coffee cools down within half an hour so that the drink is only considered “lukewarm”.
After two hours it is definitely cold and coffee lovers should simply prepare a new cup.
