Berlin – Google Maps is once again setting new standards.
With its “Immersive View”, the tech giant is now revolutionizing 3D navigation, from which millions of users worldwide are likely to benefit.
The introduction of “Immersive View” marks a milestone for Google Maps navigation, allowing users to experience the world around them in a completely new way - similar to a video game.
Google had previously introduced a button to display the current weather, but the “Immersive View” goes far beyond that.

Google Maps sets new standards: “Immersive View” revolutionizes 3D navigation
The revolutionary feature is intended to take navigation to a completely new level: With “Immersive View,” Google Maps enables 3D navigation that includes buildings, vehicles, trees and even flying birds - and generates moving views like in a video game.
Although the “Immersive View” looks extremely realistic, no real-time images are used.
Instead, Google combines images from Street View, which was launched in 2007 and offered new images for Germany in 2023, and aerial photos taken using special 3D cameras.
Artificial intelligence and computer-aided image recognition are used to fuse the data and create an impressive 3D representation.
According to reports from the US media website

“Immersive View” not only takes 3D visualization of apps to a new level, but also offers the possibility.
A time controller is also used to show the future weather or traffic situation on the route at a specific time.
Instead of a simple red line for the route, real images of traffic are displayed, making navigation more realistic than ever before.

Google Maps is massively upgrading 3D navigation: “Immersive View” for routes in 15 cities for the time being
This innovative feature is rolling out in two versions: one allows exploration of places like landmarks and parks, while the other offers detailed previews of routes.
Immersive View for routes will initially be rolled out in 15 cities worldwide, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, London, New York and Tokyo.
With the “Immersive View” of places, at least some sights in Germany can be explored for the time being.

“Immersive View” from Google Maps: This is how the mode is activated
To activate the “Immersive View” mode of Google Maps, first search for a location in Google Maps for which the option is available and then start the function by clicking on the preview image.
The corresponding location can be selected at different times of the day using a “Time and Weather” bar in the lower part of the screen.
Users can now explore every section and environment along their planned route in advance, which should prevent wanderings like those of drivers who were led into the desert by Google Maps in the future.
