There's a trick so that it doesn't take too much effort: cook applesauce directly in mason jars in the oven.

This saves you time and nerves.

This means you avoid the constant stirring that occurs when preparing food on the stove.

Simple recipe: How to cook applesauce in the oven

It is particularly important that you sterilize the preserving jars well beforehand.

To do this, you can either place them in a pot of boiling water for ten minutes or, alternatively, sterilize them in the oven at 120 °C for 15 minutes.

Ingredients for four glasses:

  • 1 kg fresh apples

  • Spices of your choice, e.g.

    B. ground cinnamon or cinnamon sticks, vanilla, cloves, star anise

  • 50 g sugar (more or less to taste)

  • some lemon juice

This is how it works:

  • Preheat the oven to 85 °C fan oven.

  • Peel the apples and remove the core.

  • Then cut the apples into small cubes and place them in the prepared jars.

  • Distribute your chosen spices and sugar among the glasses as desired.

  • Add a small splash of lemon juice.

  • Now fill the glasses with water so that the contents are completely covered.

  • Close the jars tightly and shake everything well so that the ingredients are mixed well.

  • Place all the glasses on a baking tray and place it on the middle shelf of the oven.

  • Cook the apples for about 40-45 minutes.

  • After this time, check whether bubbles form in the jars.

If this is the case, the applesauce is ready.

Otherwise, leave it in the oven a little longer.

Then take the glasses out and let them cool completely.

If you store the applesauce in a cool, dark place, it will last for a few months.
