For three years, the well-known Leipzig Book Fair, which is the second largest literary event in Germany after the Frankfurt Book Fair, fell victim to the corona pandemic - and celebrated its big comeback last year.
People's enthusiasm for literature of all kinds continues to be great: 274,000 visitors flocked to the exhibition grounds and downtown Leipzig.
One of the highlights of 2023 was the appearance of Angela Merkel, who caused a stir with her statements.
People from all over the world are expected again in 2024 when the book fair opens its doors between March 21st and 24th.
For the first time since the Corona pandemic, the Leipzig Antiquarian Book Fair will take place again in 2024 as part of the book fair.
The Leipzig Book Fair Prize is being awarded for the 20th time
The special thing about 2024: Two big anniversaries will be celebrated.
On the one hand, the Leipzig Book Fair prize is being awarded for the 20th time.
It is traditionally awarded on the opening day in the categories of fiction, non-fiction/essays and translation and is endowed with a total of 60,000 euros.
A seven-person jury selects the winners from five titles per category.
The nominees will be announced on February 29th.
A total of 177 publishers submitted 486 books for the anniversary edition.

Leipzig Book Fair 2024: Manga Comic Con and “Leipzig Reads”
In addition to the award ceremony, there is also a second anniversary to celebrate.
The Manga Comic Con will take place for the tenth time in 2024.
It is considered the most important German spring event for the manga and comic scene.
For the fans who have traveled there will be readings, book signings and workshops where they can meet well-known faces from the scene.
Many visitors come to the trade fair in disguise.
They are called cosplayers.
For many people, the highlight of Manga Comic Con is the cosplay competition, in which the most beautiful costume is chosen.

There will be a lot on offer for visitors to the Leipzig Book Fair in 2024.
In addition to the Manga Comic Con, book fans will find numerous other offers in the five exhibition halls.
Authors from over 40 countries present their works at the individual stands, and there are also numerous readings and book signings.
There is something for every taste: children's and young adult literature - whose authors have recently been self-critical - fiction, non-fiction and literature about travel, music and religion.
The exact program and the names of the authors will be published on February 22, 2024.

The “Leipzig reads” literature festival is extremely popular and has been an integral part of the Leipzig Book Fair for many years.
Around 3,200 participants organize over 3,000 events at 350 different locations in and around Leipzig.
The festival serves as a stage for authors and publishers who want to present their latest works.
“Reading fans can experience literature and writers live in readings, discussion groups and participatory activities,” explains the Leipzig Book Fair on its website.

Leipzig Book Fair 2024: Tickets and prices
Tickets for the Leipzig Book Fair 2024 have been available since December 5, 2023 and can be purchased in the online ticket shop.
Day tickets for Thursday, Friday and Sunday cost 22 euros in advance (reduced 18 euros) and 24 euros (20 euros) at the box office.
The main day is Saturday, March 23rd.
A ticket for this day costs 27 euros (23 euros) in advance and 29 euros (25 euros) at the box office.
Children up to 5 years of age receive free entry, between 6 and 12 years of age they can enter the site for significantly less than adults.
Group tickets and season tickets for all four days are also available in the ticket shop.
