As in previous years, drivers will have to prepare for a speed camera marathon in 2024.
These penalties apply for violations.
Kassel - The speed camera marathon 2024 starts in spring. Police officers plan to monitor the speed of road traffic in Germany particularly intensively on several days.
If you always keep your car at the right speed so that you don't get caught in the first place, you probably don't need to worry.
But it can be expensive for speeders on these days.
What are the penalties if the speed camera goes off?

It is not yet clear whether all federal states will take part in the speed camera marathon.
After all, Saarland, Bremen and Berlin have not taken part in the campaign in recent years.
In the other federal states, however, a diligent search for traffic offenders was already underway in 2023.
This year, according to

, the campaign will take place from April 15th to 21st.
Penalties for speeding in urban areas
In principle, when it comes to a fine that has been imposed due to speeding, a distinction must be made between inner-city and out-of-town areas.
The penalties for violations in built-up areas are significantly higher than outside of them.

if you exceed the limit by 10 kilometers per hour,
a fine of 30 euros will be due.
With processing fees and expenses it is even 58.50 euros.
If you exceed the speed limit by 21 kilometers per hour, the penalty not only hits your wallet, but also means a point in Flensburg.
Anyone caught exceeding the limit by 26 to 30 kilometers twice within a year will even have to give up their driving license for a month.
If you exceed 31 kilometers per hour, a single violation is enough to result in a driving ban.

... 61 - 70 km/h: €738.50, 2 points in Flensburg, 3 months driving ban
over 70 km/h: 843.50 €2 points in Flensburg, 3 months driving ban
Penalties for speeding outside of town
Outside of town, however, the penalties are slightly lower.
If you exceed the speed limit by up to 10 kilometers, 48.50 euros will be charged, including expenses and processing fees.
If you exceed the speed limit by 26 to 30 kilometers, you will be banned from driving for one month if you violate the speed limit twice within one year.
Unlike in urban areas, this is also the case if the limit is exceeded by 31 to 40 kilometers.
The driving ban only takes effect from the first violation if the speed limit is at least 41 kilometers per hour.

However, the exact penalties listed in the catalog of fines do not always apply.
Although the fines office is generally based on these amounts, it always has a certain amount of discretion.
If the authority sees a reason to impose stricter penalties, this is possible.
This would happen more often, especially with repeat offenders.
