Hamas is using the Palestinian people as a shield, it wants Israel to have a harsher reaction and then say, 'let's isolate Israel'. This is Hamas' plan. we must fall into Hamas's trap. We say carry out targeted attacks and try to reduce the damage to the civilian population. But this has nothing to do with Israel's right to attack Hamas, what is at issue is not the right to defend itself but the civilian victims."
This was declared by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on Rtl 102.
"We are friends of Israel, we strongly support Israel's right to defend itself, not to be attacked, no one can erase it from the map. On 7 October there was a hunt for the Jew by Hamas, not a military attack, I have seen incredible videos. We say that the reaction must be proportionate, they say 'be careful not to cause too many civilian victims'. The general interest is de-escalation, we must support the dialogue in Egypt to have a suspension of fighting and free the hostages", he added.
