The

National Administration of Medicines, Food and Medical Technology (ANMAT)

this Wednesday prohibited the manufacture and sale of a

brand of olive oil

, considering it as an “

illegal product

.”

The measure was made official through

provision 1349/2024

, which was published in the latest edition of the

Official Gazette

and was signed by the head of that control body,

Nélida Agustina Bisio

.

Specifically, the ban affects "

First Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Estancia del Norte brand

, RNE: 13-284651, RNPA: 13-264816, Mendoza Origin."

As detailed in the document,

the investigation

began after a person consulted the

National Food Institute (INAL)

about the authenticity of the product in question, since it did not seem to comply with current food regulations.

Then, the INAL made the corresponding queries through the

Federal Information System for the Management of Food Control (SIFeGA)

, to verify if "the National Establishment Registry (RNE) and the National Food Product Registry (RNPA) that displayed on the label of the investigated product were authorized".

For its part, the Department of Food Hygiene of the province of Mendoza confirmed that

both records were non-existent.

Given that

the product was advertised and marketed through the Internet

, the intervention of the Program for Monitoring and Supervision of Advertising and Promotion of Products Subject to Health Surveillance was requested to take the corresponding measures.

As it "lacks sanitary registration of the establishment and product, and is falsely labeled by displaying non-existent registration numbers on its label,

it is considered an illegal product

," the document details.

Therefore, the "production, fractionation and marketing

throughout the national territory and on online sales platforms of the product of

First Cold Pressed Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Estancia del Norte brand "

was prohibited

.

A similar case occurred in December 2023, when ANMAT prohibited the manufacture and sale of a brand of premium olive oil, considering it an “illegal product.”

Forget the oil that ANMAT banned.

It was "

Premium Quality Olive Oil, Arauco brand

, RNE: 24589668 - RNPA: 24555178, Produced by Agroverde R 60 Km 170 - Mazan Station, La Rioja".

With the objective of "

protecting the health of citizens from the consumption of illegal products

", Article 1 prohibited the "production, fractionation and marketing throughout the national territory, and on online sales platforms" of olive oil. premium olive in question.
