"If in the North, given the situation that is emerging, a summer season without particular water concerns is expected, in the South it is already an emergency.

Increasing the culture of water is essential to accelerate the investments necessary to lead the country towards the new climate scenarios, increasing the water reserves and avoiding losing large quantities of water into the sea, as continues to happen".

Massimo Gargano, General Director of Anbi, the association of basin consortia, writes this in his monthly bulletin on the water situation in Italy.

The thirstiest territories of Sicily did not benefit from a quantity of rain sufficient to rebalance the dramatic negative water balance, which developed after 8 months of almost total aridity: the precipitations were, in fact, poorly distributed over the territory, ranging from a handful of millimeters of rain, falling on the thirsty provinces of Catania, Ragusa and Syracuse, to mm.

271.4 in 72 hours on Prizzi, in the Palermo area.

In Basilicata the reservoirs hold only 35% of the overall capacity.

The same goes for the reservoirs serving the Tavoliere della Puglia.

In the North, the levels of the large lakes have recorded a good increase and remain well above historical averages: the Garda basin is now 100% full.

The Po river, whose flow recorded a general deficit of around 50%, is now in full health.
