Telephone fraud cases continue to increase.

Which phone numbers are currently involved in a scam and where you can report the phone scam.

Kassel – The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) regularly warns about fraudulent telephone calls on its website.

These have become a serious problem nationwide.

Fraudsters use sophisticated methods and clever conversation techniques to try to rip off their unsuspecting victims.

This often results in significant financial damage for those affected.

A particularly perfidious method is the grandchild trick via Whatsapp or a shock call, which particularly targets seniors.

In this insidious scam, the criminals rely on the emotional distress of the victims.

However, with a few helpful tips, you can protect yourself from telephone fraud.

When you call, rip-off: You should be aware of these fraudulent phone calls and report them

Telephone rip-offs are not new, but they remain a profitable business for many criminals.

The cases of fraud are becoming more dangerous and the perpetrators' actions are becoming more diverse.

Fake calls in the name of bank employees or police authorities are just like calls for fake competitions.

But there are other spam calls and messages that can become a cost trap for those affected.

Those affected can submit a complaint via the following calls and messages on the Federal Network Agency website:

  • Nuisance call attempts:

You are called from a displayed number either very early, very late or very frequently.

  • Ping call:

During such a call, the telephone or cell phone only rings briefly.

The phone number in the display encourages you to call back an expensive phone number.

  • Unauthorized telephone advertising:

If you are called for advertising purposes without your prior consent, this is illegal.

If the offense is proven, fines of up to 300,000 euros can be imposed.

  • Unsolicited SMS or message via messenger:

You receive unsolicited messages via SMS or via a short message service (Whatsapp) without your prior consent.

  • Winning announcement via recorded message:

You will be asked to call a number or press a key on your phone.

In order to receive the prize, personal data will be requested.

  • Phone number manipulation:

You receive calls where the phone numbers have been spoofed.

There are three numbers from Great Britain in the top positions in the top 10 ranking.

All telephone numbers in the ranking are cost traps.

The fraud attempts also come from Germany.

These range from false, seductive promises of prizes to offers for dentures or health insurance and continuous telephone harassment.

The encouraging thing, however, is that reported blockings have increased by 26.6 percent.

“Consumers know how to defend themselves, are more educated and are increasingly using solutions such as anti-spam apps,” says

Consumer advice center warns against rip-offs over the telephone

When it comes to fraudulent phone calls where unjustified demands are made, consumer advocates recommend that you avoid being pressured into saying “yes” during the phone calls.

In many cases reported to the consumer advice center, consumers suddenly received bills after such calls.

However, according to the consumer advice center, anyone who has not consciously agreed to a contract does not have to pay the claims.

Many contracts are “only valid with a written summary,” according to consumer advocates.
