Record growth in 2023 for charging stations for electric cars.
According to a report by Motus-E, as of 31 December 2023 there were 50,678 charging points for public use in Italy (+13,906 compared to 2022), surpassing France, Germany and the United Kingdom in the ratio between charging points and electric vehicles in circulation and in the ratio between charging points and overall length of the road network.
Lombardy is the first region for charging points (9,395), ahead of Piedmont (5,169), Veneto (4,914), Lazio (4,659) and Emilia-Romagna (4,253).
Among the cities, Rome is the one with the most columns installed (3,588), second place for Milan (2,883) and third for Naples (2,652).
The ranking changes, however, if we consider the number of charging points per km² of surface area, with Naples on the top step of the podium (225 points per 100 square km), ahead of Milan (183 points per 100 square km) and Rome (67 points per 100 km²) .
Charging points on Italian motorways have almost doubled in the last year (from 496 to 932).
The work necessary to infrastructure the country is obviously not finished, but the path taken is the right one and also in 2024 we will see a constant improvement and expansion of the charging network serving citizens", observes the general secretary of Motus-E, Francesco Naso.
