That geopolitics comes to Eurovision is nothing new.
The competition may well be apolitical, according to its regulations, there have been dozens of examples of more or less serious departures from this principle since its creation in 1956. No surprise then that Israeli participation in the competition in May, in Malmö ( Sweden), is causing a stir in view of the response to Hamas attacks since October 7.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has just confirmed this Thursday that Israel will not be excluded from the competition as it stands.
Information in response to calls to ban the Jewish state from the competition while countries and national broadcasters are questioning their participation if Israel also takes part in the competition.
Several fans openly display their support for the Palestinian cause on social networks and still demand exclusion from the country due to the situation in Gaza.
