Barbie prepares the way for the Oscars: Jimmy Kimmel, who will present Night of the Stars on March 10, has released a parody trailer of Greta Gerwig's film to invite viewers to attend the evening in which the most coveted cinema awards will be awarded .
Collaborating on the trailer are Helen Mirren as voiceover, Kate McKinnon (one of the Barbies in the film), Ryan Gosling (nominated for best supporting actor) and his female counterpart, America Ferrera.
Jimmy, in a tuxedo, has lost his way and doesn't know how to get to Hollywood.
"Since the beginning of time, men have been lost. This is the story of one of these idiots," Mirren's voiceover says, riffing on the Mattel doll at the beginning of the film.
The comedian then knocks on the door of a ramshackle Barbie house.
He opens McKinnon (Weird Barbie) who offers to accompany him on an itinerary that passes by iconic places in the USA that are transformed into posters of the ten films in the running.
Ferrera revisits his monologue by reminding Kimmel that "it's practically impossible to host the Oscars", in the sense that, as you do, you make mistakes: "If everything goes well, nobody says anything. If something goes wrong, it's all your fault."
Gosling appears lastly with a joke about the fact that Greta Gerwig has the director Oscar in her pocket and when the others warn him that she isn't even a candidate, he starts screaming at the top of his lungs.
This goes on for over five minutes, well beyond the length of a trailer.
Mirren closes, again as a voice-over, reminding us that this year the show will be broadcast earlier than usual, at 4pm in Los Angeles (three hours later in New York) on ABC.
