Some 2.4 billion copies of newspapers were sold in 2023, including 721 million in digital version, while press sites and apps recorded 23 billion visits, according to the Alliance for Press and News Figures. media (ACPM).
In total, the French press - namely the general public press, the professional press and the free press - distributed 2.7 billion copies in 2023, or 7.5 million copies per day, indicates the ACPM in a press release published Thursday.
At constant scope, distribution is down 4.6% compared to 2022.
The regional daily press still in the lead
In detail, the regional daily press represents 37% of this distribution, followed by the magazine press (36%), the national daily press (16%), the so-called “7th day” press (mainly that of Sundays, 5% ), the free daily news press (3%), the regional weekly press (2%) and the professional press (1%).
Among the new titles launched in 2023,
La Tribune Dimanche
reached an average of around 50,800 copies sold in October when it was put on the market.
However, sales fell to 34,800 copies per edition in December.
Of the total of 23 billion visits to sites and applications, 20 billion are made on mobile media.
The national daily press is the one that sells the most in digital version (64% of copies), unlike the regional daily press and the magazine press where the majority of sales are made in paper format, between 75 and 80%.
