A few days after the declarations of Emmanuel Macron, who wants “theater to become a compulsory part of middle school from the next school year”, the Ministry of National Education is trying as best it can to respond to the presidential order.
Not easy, however, when we learned, on January 16, that we will have to develop such a demanding practice from September in nearly 7,000 colleges in France.
Faced with school leaders worried that a new reform is urgently imposed on them, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra (since replaced by Nicole Belloubet) tried to draw up a coherent road map, Wednesday January 31, during 'a meeting with the principals and principals.
“In the short term, for the start of the 2024 school year, we will identify theater clubs, expand the number of students welcomed there, and, where there are none, develop them.
I will also launch, with the Minister of Culture, a mobilization of theater professionals so that there is support for our establishments and that we manage to establish this regular contact between students and these professionals", indicated then the one who was still Minister of National Education.
