The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, ECDC, predicts that measles cases will continue to increase in the EU and the European Economic Area in the coming months due to suboptimal vaccination coverage, the high probability of importation from high circulation areas , and the fact that the next few months represent the seasonal peak.
In 2023, 2,361 cases were reported to ECDC, over 74% in Romania.
Between January and early February, the number of countries reporting measles cases increased, and seven deaths were reported in two countries: Romania (6) and Ireland (1).
