"Memories of Hadrian", a bestselling masterpiece by Marguerite Yourcenar (published in Italy by Einaudi) which tells the life of Trajan's successor, becomes a television series.
The series is written and scripted by Francesco Piccolo, winner of the Strega Prize for "The desire to be like everyone" and author of screenplays for Nanni Moretti, Paolo Virzì, Francesca Archibugi, Marco Bellocchio, Matteo Rovere, Daniele Lucchetti and Saverio Costanzo.
Produced by Ilbe, a company active in the production of film and television content founded by Andrea Iervolino and Monika Bacardi, it tells the story of Emperor Hadrian in six episodes.
Since childhood, he depicts the life of a profound and sensitive man, aware of his imperial role and the weight he carries with him.
On the screen, an obsessive search for freedom, building states of grace that make human beings equal, beyond roles and social conventions.
A wise and far-sighted diplomat and a human being characterized by splendors and fears, Adriano defends his immense love for the arts to cover the shame caused by the emptiness of his youth.
And then his passions: a natural and complete bisexuality, which was also controversial and egocentric.
The pain and tragedy, the feelings of deep friendship and respect for humanity.
All themes that will be explored in the series, offering an intimate look at the complex psychology of the emperor and his lasting impact on European history and culture.
