Lidl is renewing its design at several locations.
Initially only individual branches are affected.
But more could follow.
Bad Wimpfen — Lidl is a well-known supermarket in Germany.
The interior design of the discount store is probably familiar to most people in this country.
Normally, when entering a branch, customers are led past longitudinal shelves.
But recently the discounter, which was recently challenged by a newcomer, has been testing a new design concept at individual locations.

Lidl emphasizes the advantages of the new design concept for customers and employees
As a result of the change, the shelves now form a kind of cooling tunnel because they face each other.
According to the report, a Lidl employee explained that this would reduce the company's energy consumption.
According to market observers, Lidl is satisfied with the results of the new design in the test branches.
There are currently no nationwide changes planned, but an expansion of the concept is likely.

It is not the first change for supermarket customers – Lidl changed its branch concept in 2023
The discounter had already been working on a new branch concept in August 2023.
This was also a cost-cutting measure: the company decided to use less high-quality inventory in its supermarkets.
As a result, Lidl should be increasingly perceived as a discounter again.
