On Monday, on the occasion of the Foreign Affairs Council, the EU will launch the Aspides mission, against the Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
A senior EU official explained this.
The mission will last at least one year, with possible renewal subject to a decision by the EU Council.
The mission, it was reiterated, will be defensive and does not precede land attacks.
"It will be quite risky, because the Houthis are attacking ships in the Red Sea," the source explained.
The strategic command of the operation will be Greek.
The mission, it is underlined, is open to the participation of third countries.
