The Leberkassemmel is very popular in Bavaria and Austria.

And that's why it's always a reason for heated discussions - as a supermarket case shows.

Vienna – In Bavaria, Leberkassemmel is one of the most popular dishes and is considered a cultural asset.

So woe betide you if anyone “tries” this – like a man from Thuringia with his Leberkas creation.

Almost every Bavarian butcher also sells the popular delicacy to take away, as do butcher shops in several other federal states.

The snack is also usually available in supermarkets.

Discounter Lidl once even offered a Leberkas pizza – which was met with little enthusiasm.

And it's not just in Germany that many people are fans of a delicious Leberkas roll in the classic sense.

This also applies to Austria.

That's why a supermarket customer's liver casserole caused a lot of trouble there.

Supermarket customer shows liver casserole for 2 euros: “What is that?

Carpaccio?"

The man posted a photo on Reddit.

It showed a hand holding a half-eaten liver casserole.

You could tell from the logos on the paper in which the snack was wrapped: the Leberkassemmel was purchased from the Austrian supermarket chain Spar.

The title of the Reddit post that the user chose also confirmed this: “2 euros... Save quality.” So far, nothing unusual at first - if there hadn't been one crucial detail.

Between the two halves of the roll there was a fairly thinly sliced piece of Leberkas.

The Reddit user may have deliberately chosen the words “saving quality” to be ambiguous.

Numerous users who diligently commented on the post also found that it could have been a little more.

“A roll with a sheet of extra sausage and mustard?” asked one user irritated.

"What is that?

Carpaccio?” another just wanted to know.

“I’ve seen thicker extra sausage slices,” said another user.

Roll with an extremely thin slice of Leberkas causes trouble – “I would have hit the ceiling”

“Will be the vegan version,” joked one user.

“Lenten Edition” was another – also not entirely serious – approach from a user.

“At first I thought it was normal cold cuts until I

saw the subreddit name

(Leberkas Crime; editor's note) ,” said one person and judged: “This Leberkas is clearly too thin.” Many other users saw it similarly.

Comments ranged from “A touch of nothing” to “Dude!

Less is empty!” to “May contain traces of Leberkas”.

Or: “It doesn’t look that good.”

'Others saw a clear reference to the name of the supermarket chain where the liver casserole was purchased.

“It also means 'Spar',” said one user dryly.

“The name says it all,” agreed another.

“This is a bottomless impudence,” it was said elsewhere.

Another even suspected heresy and demanded: “It’s time to turn on the Leberkas Inquisition!” Meanwhile, another user reacted angrily and confessed: “I would have hit the ceiling then.

I wouldn’t accept something like that.”

At least there were a few voices that were at least neutral or even positive about the extremely thin slice of liver cheese between the halves of the bread roll.

“Does it feel good to eat such a thin slice?” one asked.

“That’s the best way to taste it.

“It’s better to have two rolls like this than one with thick Leberkas,” wrote one user.

“Right, just meat in your mouth is disgusting, most of it has to be rolls plus vegetables,” agreed another.

A supermarket customer in Germany recently saw things differently.

Thin liver casserole: mistake when weighing or a “new burger”?

Several users believed there was an error in weighing the liver casserole.

Despite the very thin slice of liver cheese, the price must have been two euros, which they considered to be too high.

Another user threw out a further explanation: "Ah, I see they gave you a 'Neuburger' instead of a Leberkas." The Austrian company "Neuburger" produces a cold cut made from pork and beef.

It's visually reminiscent of Leberkas, but is sliced very thinly.

The external similarity of both products is obvious, but the company's advertising slogan speaks volumes: "Never say meatloaf to it."

It is not known whether the Spar customer was actually the “victim” of a mix-up or was served an extremely thin slice of Leberkas in his roll.

Recently, a customer at Rewe also found the meat portion of his liver casserole “snotty”.

Meanwhile, a Leberkas recipe recently shocked fellow Bavarians in particular, who asked themselves: “What’s going on?”
