Highlights: Zendaya wore armor to the premiere of Dune 2 in London on February 15. The robotic suit is made up of metal parts and transparent panels revealing Zendaya's body. The armor was presented for the first time during Mugler's fall-winter 1995-1996 haute couture show. For this look, he draws inspiration from the film Metropolis, by Fritz Lang, released in 1927. It spans the ages without rusting, declined and reproduced for Beyoncé, Lady Gaga or Cara Delevigne.

The actress arrived at the Dune 2 premiere in London on February 15. She wore a look as surprising as it was sensational, which has since been widely commented on on social media.

The moment is iconic.

If Zendaya is used to causing a sensation on red carpets, dressed by her stylist Law Roach who knows how to highlight her in a relevant way, this look may well remain among the most memorable.

That is to say that the 27-year-old actress arrived at the premiere of the film

The robotic suit is made up of metal parts and transparent panels revealing Zendaya's body, particularly at the level of the arms, thighs, buttocks and chest.

In terms of details, the shoulders and hips are accentuated by several shells.

The actress also had to slip her hands into the metal gloves and her feet into the built-in pumps.

Above the armor, further accentuating the impression of double skin, Zendaya wears a diamond and sapphire necklace from Bulgari.

Metropolis

Thierry Mugler was almost fifty years old when he presented this combination at the Cirque d'Hiver in Paris.

At the time, the fashion show celebrated the twentieth anniversary of its label.

For this look, he draws inspiration from the film

Metropolis

, by Fritz Lang, released in 1927. A silent dystopia filmed in black and white, the thriller lasts more than two hours and tells the story of a metropolis in the year 2026. Rocked science fiction, the French creator who has always sublimated women transforms them here into a gynoid being.

His creation, both costume and clothing, was immortalized by Helmut Newton for the American edition of

Vogue

, in November 1995. It spans the ages without rusting, declined and reproduced for Beyoncé, Lady Gaga or Cara Delevigne, and re-released finally archives for Zendaya.

Photos of the actress flooded social networks, highlighting this iconic look.

A director at heart (he thought he would make a career in dance, then in theater then in interior design), Thierry Mugler left his mark on the fashion scene by becoming a pioneer, in the 1970s, of show shows.

Thierry Mugler transformed women into fabulous, mystical creatures, sometimes cats, sometimes bees.

He also said of himself: “My measure is excess.”

It's not Zendaya's stylist who will contradict him.
