New figures from the federal government show that in order to receive a civil service pension, normal employees would sometimes have to work significantly longer than a normal life.
More and more pensioners are suffering from financial difficulties in old age - despite the pension increase in 2024 - and receive low salaries.
Extreme differences are particularly noticeable when pensioners are compared with retirees.
The reason is quickly explained: While the pension is calculated based on the last income - a maximum of 71.75 percent of the gross salary - the pension, on the other hand, adds up all income from the working years.
Average pension in Germany is significantly higher than average pension
Now a report from
BILD
is causing a stir.
In it, the paper refers to figures from the federal government.
Accordingly, the average pension in Germany is 2,630 euros.

, men receive an average gross pension of 1,728 euros, while women only receive 1,316 euros.

The numbers are even more surreal for people who earn less than the average gross salary.
