Jasmin and Maik barely make ends meet with child and citizen benefits and are struggling with debts.
Now the young woman is pregnant again.
Rostock – In the prefabricated buildings in Rostock in the Groß Klein district, many people live on social benefits.
Among them is the young couple Jasmin and Maik with their son.
The two mainly finance themselves through citizens' and child benefits.
But over the years some debts have accumulated for the couple, who are now expecting another child or even twins.
They share their journey in the RTL program “Hartz und cordial”.
TV couple unemployed – and unable to work or train
The young couple currently does not have a job.
It will stay that way for Maik.
Since 2023, the young man has been considered unfit for work for psychological reasons.
When they received the news, Jasmin decided to look for a job.
“I think it's forever, but that's not a bad thing.
“I’ll have enough to do here if Schatz goes to work later,” said the husband, who wanted to focus on the household and raising children, on the show.
But a job for Jasmin doesn't work out for the time being because she is now pregnant again.

Before her first pregnancy, Jasmin worked for a few months.
“I had a lot of problems there.
It was a job with little variety,” the young woman told

At that time she worked four hours a day for minimum wage.
But in the show the mother appears confident: “Let’s put it this way: I have an apartment, I have funds available.
I mean, I don’t have any training and I’ll probably never be able to get one because I’m probably unfit for training.”
3000 euros in debt to the job center and legal dispute with the supermarket
Jasmin and Maik currently receive 1,600 euros in citizen and child benefit every month.

the couple has to
pay 900 euros in fixed costs per month.
This includes costs for electricity and other bills.
Additional costs arise from concluded contracts: “Because we have so many contracts, we have to ensure that we switch them off little by little.
We have some for ourselves and some for friends.” But not all of your friends can pay the contract costs.
At the end there would be 500 euros left over: “for food, the animals and other costs.
That’s still a lot we have.”
But the couple is saddled with a mountain of debt and has also gotten into a legal dispute.
“Actually, 96 euros would still be outstanding, but because a return debit was made and additional reminder fees were added, it is now 235 euros,” said 19-year-old Jasmin about her debts to the Lidl supermarket.
The Rostock woman paid with a card for her purchase.
However, the account was not funded.
The original plan was to pay off the debt in installments.
When she defaulted, the couple received an unpleasant letter from the district court.

The couple is also said to owe the job center up to 3,000 euros.
They had previously borrowed this sum from the office to finance back child benefit payments, initial equipment for the baby and the apartment and had not yet paid it back.

The first son is now one and a half years old, the second or perhaps third child is on the way.
But the youth welfare office keeps a strict eye on the family and accuses them of a lack of care.
Jasmin is supposed to move with her child into a supervised mother-child home for two years - without her husband Maik.
