Almond trees in bloom and bees woken up early: these are some of the consequences of the 'fake' spring that Puglia is experiencing these days due to higher temperatures than the average for the period.
A heat which, for Coldiretti Puglia, is alarming for the agricultural sector which has to face the lack of rain, which has decreased as already happened last year when rainfall recorded a reduction of 14%.
Also worrying is the 1.4 degree increase in temperatures compared to the historical average of the last 30 years.
A situation which for the primary sector means "cost growth" which also affects the fodder useful for feeding livestock.
In fact, the price of feed has undergone a sharp increase "due to the higher prices of the main raw materials such as soya, corn and cereals" also due to "the current crisis due to the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East".
The unseasonal heat "sends Nature into a tailspin and also favors early flowering such as mimosas", the trade association says, highlighting "the danger of exposing crops to the damage of a probable drop in temperatures with the consequent loss of collected".
"Agriculture - reminds Coldiretti Puglia - is the economic activity that suffers most from the consequences of climate change".
For the association, investments are needed from institutions as well as from agricultural companies, also for the recovery of water through systems made up of small reservoirs "for the maintenance, saving, recovery and regulation of water".
