Amy Schumer doesn't owe anyone an explanation for her health issues, but the comedian apparently felt obligated to give an update after quite a few comments were posted on social media about how she looks.
It all follows a recent media roundup she's doing to promote the second season of her show Life & Beth on Hulu.
What people are particularly focused on: The 42-year-old comedian's more "bloated" face, which drew comments online after appearing on Good Morning America and Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show.
"You are right that it is more swollen than usual right now," Schumer wrote on Instagram on Thursday.
"I have endometriosis, an autoimmune disease that every woman should read about."
So here's a summary: Endometriosis (endo - face, matrium - uterus) is a chronic gynecological disease that affects women.
It is an estrogen-dependent inflammatory disease in which cells similar to cells of the endometrium - the tissue that lines the inside of the uterus - grow in areas outside the uterus, such as the fallopian tubes, ovaries or other areas in the abdominal cavity and female pelvis.
Sometimes they may even grow in more distant areas.

Schumer added, "There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I'm fine."
It doesn't seem to be the openness about health that bothers Schumer, but the fact that the world is preoccupied with how she looks lately.
"Thank you so much for everyone's investment in my facial appearance!"
she wrote sarcastically in her post.
"I enjoyed the feedback and debates about my appearance like all women for almost 20 years."
She goes on to write that she doesn't think she (or any woman) should feel obligated to explain their appearance to anyone, but that she wanted to "take the opportunity to support self-love and acceptance of the skin she lives in."
"Like any other woman/person there are days when I feel safe and good and other days I want to put a bag over my head," Schumer wrote.
"But I feel strong and beautiful and so proud of this TV show that I created. Maybe just maybe we can focus on that a little bit."
