Munich – People who retired in 2022 received an average of 1,084 euros in pension per month.
In summer 2024 it will increase for some recipients.
Many retirees can only dream of a pension of 2,000 euros.

The calculation also includes the salary points, the access factor, the current pension value and the pension type factor.
The salary is calculated annually in relation to the average salary of all other employees.
The salary point value is calculated from this.
The access factor takes into account discounts or surcharges that result from the retirement date.
The current pension value expresses the amount per earnings point.
This is constantly changing.
The pension factor refers to the type of pension used.
This can be, among other things, a retirement pension or a pension due to reduced earning capacity.

This is how the pension is calculated - the salary points are decisive
In order to receive a pension of over 2000 euros per month, the salary points are particularly crucial.
The corresponding salary points must be determined for each year in which contributions were made.
Your own earnings taken into account are divided by the average salary.
This results in the salary points for the respective year.
The points from all years are then added together.
Parents add two and a half pay points for each child born before January 1, 1992 and three pay points for each child born after this date.
The earnings points could now be used in the pension formula.
The calculation refers to employees in the old federal states.
If insured people have also worked in new federal states, they will still receive salary points that are calculated and evaluated differently.

An example calculation from the

A man who was born in 1970 has been working since 1988. At the beginning of his career he earned 4,100 German marks gross.
His salary was increased by one percent every three years until 2011.
So he earned between 2100 euros and 2692 euros gross per month.
Since 2013, he has been earning 4,800 euros gross per month as a manager.
Since then, the salary has increased by one percent annually.
The man will retire in 2033.
Until then, he was able to collect 51 salary points through his salary according to the formula.
This means his monthly pension is still 1,917 euros, despite his high salary, still less than 2,000 euros.
If he has raised two children, the man in the example will have 56 earnings points.
He would therefore be entitled to a pension of around 2,105 euros per month.
Only very few people will manage to receive a pension of over 2,000 euros per month.

People who retire early also have poor chances.
According to the federal government, a full 95 percent of pensions in 2021 were under 2,000 euros.
250,000 pensioners managed to receive a statutory pension of more than 2,400 euros per month at the end of 2022.
