China will intensify coast guard patrols in the Kinmen, islands a few miles from Fujian and controlled by Taiwan, with "regular operations" to "maintain order in the affected waters and protect the safety of fishermen".
Gan Yu, spokesman for the coast guard, announced this in a note, without providing details.
The move, destined to create new tensions between Beijing and Taipei, is in response to Wednesday's accident near Beiding (Kinmen) island in which two Chinese fishermen lost their lives when their boat capsized while being chased by the Taiwanese coast guard.
