Temperatures like between the end of March and April in Italy with values between 8 and 10 degrees above average, from the sea to the mountains, with peaks of up to 22 degrees, with some hints of 'fake' cold at night in the plains.

And our Peninsula is not alone: in the south of Europe there is a stable and uniform situation which has recorded in Spain on the Cantabrian coast, in the north of the country, above 27 degrees with tropical nights 3 degrees above the average for August.

But also high temperatures in southern France and Greece.

For a change of course on Italy we will have to wait until next Friday "when a disturbance will manage to enter bringing with it air from the North Atlantic with precipitation and a drop in temperatures compared to current values".

This is the picture drawn by the climatologist of the Environmental Monitoring and Modeling Laboratory of the National Research Council, Claudio Tei.

"We are under what we call a blocking anticyclone which creates a situation of strong stability," Tei tells ANSA.

"In recent years - explains the expert - we have recorded an increase in the frequency of these persistent anticyclones which bring increasingly warmer air masses".

The El Niño phenomenon "at a global level favors these blocks, but also climate change about which suspicions are strong", says Tei.

A hot February which also involved the countries beyond the Alps, recording record values for the period also in Germany, Poland and Holland.

The only exception was the Scandinavian Peninsula which is experiencing a real winter that is even colder than average.

A weak disturbance is expected for Tuesday which will involve southern Italy but between Wednesday and Thursday there will be southern sirocco winds which precede the arrival of a disturbance starting from Friday 23 February.

"The rain and snow will return to the Apennines and the Alps. The temperatures - Tei reports - will fall somewhat back into the average for the period and the tendency towards this change in circulation seems confirmed by the models".

Looking further ahead, "March could appear more dynamic with alternating anti-cyclonic periods and other more unstable ones".
