Highlights: Scooter accidents, a constantly growing trend. In 2022, fatalities on electric vehicles increased by 77.8%. Of the 16 deaths on scooters, 4 are concentrated in the province of Milan. Together, they account for 56% of deaths nationwide. In 2021 the trend was confirmed as clearly rising with the number of accidents increasing from 564 in the previous year to 2,101. E-bikes were instead involved in 691 accidents (240 in 2020), with 13 victims (6 in 2020)

   The tragedy that occurred in Bergamo, where a 19-year-old boy was hit by a bus while he was pushing a scooter, is only the latest in which the 'protagonist' is the electric two-wheeled vehicle.



    Over the years, with the development of street rental, the percentage of accidents, in some cases even fatal, has increased exponentially.


    According to the data emerging from the Aci-Istat Report 'Road accidents in Italy, provincial data update', in 2022 there was a strong increase in victims: for scooters (+77.8%) and pedestrian electric bikes (+53.8 %).

Victims among cyclists are decreasing (-6.8%).



    Based on what was analysed, 485 pedestrians died during 2022 (+3% compared to last year), 205 cyclists (-6.8%), of which 20 on electric bikes (+53.8%) and 16 drivers of scooters (+77.8%).

Of the 16 deaths on scooters, 4 are concentrated in the province of Milan, 3 in the province of Rome and 2 in the province of Turin.

Together, they account for 56% of deaths nationwide. In the province of Rome, the highest number of dead pedestrians (56), followed by Milan (24), Naples (23) and Turin (18).

In the province of Padua the highest number of dead cyclists (10), followed by Udine (9) and Milan, Venice and Ravenna (8).



    Also in 2021 the trend was confirmed as clearly rising with the number of accidents increasing from 564 in the previous year to 2,101 and injuries from 518 to 1,980, while there were 10 deaths, one of which was a pedestrian.

According to data provided by Istat, of the 1,980 injured, there were 1,903 drivers and 77 passengers.

202 drivers remained uninjured in an accident, while 127 pedestrians were injured.

E-bikes were instead involved in 691 accidents (240 in 2020), with 13 victims (6 in 2020).
