Everything as expected in the semi-final of the Rotterdam tournament between Jannik Sinner and the Dutch Taloon Griekspoor, won in two sets by the Italian who will challenge the Australian Alex De Minaur for the title today.
But the expected consequence, the rise to third place in the world rankings, is not at all normal, because Sinner will be the second Italian ever to do so after Nicola Pietrangeli, number three at the end of 1959 and the end of 1960. It will happen already on Monday in the event of victory in the Dutch tournament, but at worst the South Tyrolean will be able to celebrate on Monday 26 February, ousting Daniil Medvedev from the podium.
The winner of the Australian Open, against the Russian, did not miss a beat in his return to the scene in the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, demonstrating once again that despite not playing at the top as he had been in Melbourne he always manages to do the right choices and best manage key moments.
Today's final will be the 16th of his career for Sinner, with eleven trophies in his cupboard, and the second in a row in the Dutch port city.
