Designating Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism after the death of Alexei Navalny.
This is proposed by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, an ally of Donald Trump, suggesting a bipartisan legislative initiative which could materialize as early as next week.
"Navalny was one of the bravest people I ever met. When he returned to Russia he had to know that he would be killed by Putin, and he was killed by Putin," Graham said in an interview on "Face the Nation." of CBS.
"Why don't we do this? I just got off the phone with two Democratic senators. Let's declare Russia a state sponsor of terrorism under US law," he said.
“President Biden told Putin that if anything happened to Navalny, he would pay a price. I agree with him, the price he has to pay is Russia on the list of state sponsors of terrorism,” Graham continued.
There are currently four countries on the blacklist: Cuba, North Korea, Iran and Syria.
The designation comes with a variety of sanctions, including restrictions on foreign assistance and a ban on exports and sales of defense products.
