As zone C begins its second winter vacation, several ski resorts announce they are closing their slopes due to lack of sufficient snow.

Due to global warming, there is little snow this winter.

In the middle of the school holidays (second week for zone C, first for zone A, before zone C can take a breather next weekend), several ski areas have announced that they will close their doors due to weather conditions.

This is the case of the resort of Saint-Colomban-des-Villards, in Savoie, which announced the closure of its slopes this Monday, due to lack of sufficient snow.

No snow has fallen on the station for several weeks, indicates France Bleu.

Enough to disappoint vacationers who came especially for the occasion.

This weekend, the Laguiole station in Occitanie suffered the same fate.

After opening at the end of December, the station had already had to close on February 7, due to the weather.

European stations under threat

On Friday February 16, the lack of snow in the Pyrenees also forced the Mourtis resort to close its ski area.

To compensate for this forced closure, the Haute-Garonne resort has redesigned the entertainment program offered to the public with picnics and even treasure hunts.

If resorts sometimes use artificial snow to compensate, this is not an ideal solution since its production also contributes to climate warming.

According to a study published in the journal Nature Climate Change, global warming threatens almost all European ski resorts.

With global warming of +3°C by 2100, 91% of the more than 2,200 ski resorts risk running out of snow and are in danger, says the study.
