The Democratic Party takes time to decide on the third mandate, but Elly Schlein brought home a result: she avoided a split in the party.

The secretariat's proposal to create a working group to discuss an overall reform of local authorities was passed to the management.

And therefore, that mediation is also found between those who are in favor of the third term, such as mayors and governors, and those who are not, such as Schlein.

There is a deadline: by Thursday.

That day, the Senate committee will vote on the League's amendment which asks to remove the limits on the candidacy of those who lead local administrations and the Regions.

Or rather, we should vote, because in the corridors of the Transatlantic there is talk of a possible withdrawal of the amendment, with the consequent postponement of the discussion until who knows when.

"The majority is split, especially on the third mandate" was Schlein's premise.

As if to say, let's not remove their chestnuts from the fire, on the contrary, let's take advantage of it to highlight their contradictions: if the League misses the third mandate - this is the prediction - there will be a "domino effect" in the centre-right agreements on Autonomy and Premiership.

"Even within us there are different sensitivities - Schlein then admitted - but we are used to discussing and comparing ourselves".

With the table, he concluded in his reply, "together we will be able to take a step forward".

The agreement on the working group prevented the presentation of an agenda for the "yes" to the third term: with the vote there would have been a strong risk of a split.

But the meaning of that "step forward" is yet to be established.

For example, the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella read in the secretariat's proposal "the need for a unitary synthesis. And this synthesis includes a willingness to take a step forward on the reform of the number of mandates and therefore on the provision of the third mandate" .

The governor of Emilia Romagna and president of the Democratic Party, Stefano Bonaccini, who leads the minority within the party, also insisted on that issue.

On this issue, Bonaccini's position is similar to that of other governors, such as Vincenzo De Luca from Campania and Michele Emiliano from Puglia.

"If the third mandate is extended to municipalities with fifteen thousand inhabitants - said the president of Emilia Romagna - it is not clear why it should be avoided for the other municipalities and for the regional presidents".

Himself words from the mayor of Bari and president of the Anci, Antonio Decaro, and from the mayor of Pesaro and coordinator of the PD mayors, Matteo Ricci: "The Yes to the third term is a common sense choice".

The counterpoint was made by the deputy Marco Sarracino: other than thinking about the third mandate, the table could instead be an opportunity to "open a reflection on the direct election" of mayors and regional presidents, given that "we criticize the centralization of powers that the prime minister is doing".

Open the sky: "Let's avoid getting the idea that we are against the direct election of mayors - Bonaccini responded harshly - those who live in a community appreciate being able to choose the mayor or mayor".

In short, the summary does not appear within days: the working group composed of Alessandro Alfieri, Davide Baruffi and Igor Taruffi from the secretariat, the group leaders Francesco Boccia and Chiara Braga and administrators such as Decaro, Ricci and Nardella will try.

The land in front of Schlein, for now, is cleared of mines.

Now the secretary is thinking of Sardinia: in these days she will be on the island to support Alessandra Todde's race.

On Sunday he will be in Cutro, on the anniversary of the massacre.
