According to some rankings released these days, Milan is the third most polluted city in the world.
"These are the usual impromptu analyses, managed by a private entity. I'm also surprised at you, it's not like you can report news read from social media", commented the mayor Giuseppe Sala on the sidelines of a meeting.
Sala then began a back-and-forth with the journalist who asked him the question.
"Is this your opinion? Who carries out these analyses? Arpa carries out other analyzes which demonstrate the complete opposite, you too should inform yourself. This is a private body with no ownership. We are talking about serious things and this is not a serious thing".
"I - added Sala - am also annoyed at having to answer questions on issues that don't exist".
On the issue of pollution "none of us, nor the Lombardy Region nor Milan, have performed miracles. Nonetheless, we are continuing to try to do something. I believe my administration has demonstrated, even with divisive decisions, that it wants to do something about the environment - concluded Sala -. But we cannot go after things like this. The appeal is to follow Arpa's data and if anything to challenge the decisions we take. We are also calling the Lombardy Region to the table because it is clear that Milan alone can do up to a certain point ".
